-The idea behind YAKISUGI is to question the materiality of glass and the natural texture of wood.
-How to probe the depth of the wood’s soul and preserve it within the shape of the glass door.
-Using dry wood instead of the traditional pre-soaked mold, the wood is burned with molten glass.
-That leaves a permanent mark of its scorched texture on the glass surface => each piece becomes an authentic original
-Using a wooden mold once for each 1 Yakisugi product => each piece in the Yakisugi Collection is unique and the “texture pattern” never has a second one.
-At the very high temperature of liquid glass, the inner part of the wooden mould caught fire.
-The magic moment when we were able to capture the living wooden texture into the glass.
-This method reminded us about an ancient Japaneses technique called Yakisugi. Yakisugi is the exterior siding techniques used to protect wood by charring it with fire
